VOLUNTEERING

As well as serving and representing our Member Groups, a major element of TVA’s role is to provide help and advice to volunteers and those who wish to start volunteering.
TVA’s Volunteer Service is based in the Volunteer Centre in Pontypool. We form an essential part of TVA’s services, providing a referral service for anyone who wishes to become a volunteer.
The team consists of Rachel Jones, Volunteer Development Coordinator, Charis Easter, Volunteering Support Officer, Hayley Kettle, Millennium Volunteers Development Officer.
We are in touch with a wide variety of organisations that are helped by volunteers, and have over 180 volunteering opportunities on our files. We are constantly seeking to widen the variety of opportunities we can offer so would love to hear from organisations who need volunteers!
We can provide hosts with advice on good practice and policies relating to volunteers, and on recruiting, retaining and developing volunteers.
We currently have over 1000 volunteers on our database, most of whom have found placements. We endeavour to cater for all requirements and match up volunteers to the right placements. We act as advocates for volunteers and volunteering, promoting good practice and recognition of the extremely valuable contributions made by volunteers.
If you are interested in doing some volunteering, please get in touch with the team at the Volunteer Centre to arrange an informal discussion.
Volunteering can build your confidence, teach you new skills, keep you active and improve your employment prospects and social life! It is a way to put something back and do some good!
We have opportunities to suit all tastes, talents and time slots – come along and have a look!
As well as providing advice and help for volunteers and host organisations, we work to raise the profile of volunteering in the wider world. We often attend events with our stand to further publicise what we do – please let us know if you would like us to attend YOUR event!
We also give individuals and organisations from any sector information and advice about volunteering.
The Volunteer Service works with other projects which compliment its work such as TRAC Supported Volunteer Project which places volunteers with disabilities and Prime Cymru which specializes in placing volunteers over 50. Hayley Kettle works on the Millennium Volunteers project, placing 16-25 year olds.
