The 3 Counties Playing Together Project
The Project
Since April 2008 the project has been developing an audit of all the play provisions (ages 5-15) currently available across the three counties along with strategies to support open access play in Torfaen, Newport and Monmouthshire. The project is staffed by a Regional Executive Officer and a Play Development Officer. The audit has helped to identify the gaps that currently exist in provision and has led to a structured funding bid being put to the Big Lottery Child's Play Programme through partnership by the Three Counties and we are pleased to say being successful. This stream of funding will provide the Three Counties with nine new workers who will be managed by a Play Project Co-ordinator with funding secured for four years. These workers will be community play workers who will work with local communities to help develop sustainable play provisions at the heart of these communities.
The Future Of The Project?
Long Term Project Goals;
Help to support the development of play over the three counties. Help the sustainability of play projects. Become a strategic link over the three counties to enable the sharing of resources, information etc. Promote playwork as a profession. Ensure that play opportunities are available for all young people aged 5-15 but specifically 8-12 with activities based on need and the young peoples ideas.
Working Together We Would Wish That;
There is a significant impact on childrens play across the three counties, with all children aged 8-12 able to access play opportunities developed from their ideas and need. Opportunities are open access but operated in such a way to ensure childrens safety and wellbeing is ensured. Play be promoted to all, with Playworkers encouraged to attend forums both in county and cross county. Proactive connections to the Healthy living agenda are established.
